Data mismatch between the local search grid results and the sales intelligence report generated for Salon Prestige

There are data mismatches between the geographic grid scan results and the sales intelligence report generated for Salon Prestige.

The two core data systems (local search grid scan vs. Sales Intelligence) are not synchronized, resulting in a report that:

  • Misses the most important competitor

  • Includes non-existent competitors

  • Overstates the client's market position

Link : Scan
Link : Sales Intelligence

In the Geogrid analysis : There is a bug because the Geo Grid scan show red pins (positions #20+) in areas immediately adjacent to the salon's physical location, despite proximity being Google's #2 ranking factor.

Geo Grid Top 3:

  1. Sophie Crolet (position 1.0, 100% visibility)

  2. Studio M (position 2.5, 69.3% visibility)

  3. L'atelier 815 (position 10.3, 33.7% visibility)

Sales Intelligence Top 3:

  1. Salon Prestige (client) - #2

  2. Le Salon (4.5★, 152 reviews) - shown as #1 "Champion"

  3. Apparence Coiffure (4.9★, 89 reviews)

Discrepancies:

  • Sophie Crolet: Present in Geo Grid (weird because no review and no website), absent in Sales report

  • Le Salon: Absent in Geo Grid top 9, shown as #1 in Sales report

  • Studio M: #2 in Geo Grid, not shown in Sales report top competitors

  • L'atelier 815: #3 in Geo Grid, not shown in Sales report

Competitor Rankings Listed

Geo Grid competitive analysis shows:

  • Sophie Crolet - #1

  • Studio M - #2

  • L'atelier 815 - #3

  • Le Salon - Moy #4

  • Apparence Coiffure - Moy #4

  • Salon Marine Pierroz - Moy #9

  • L&C studio - Moy #9

  • JESSICA le salon - Moy #9

Overlap: Only "Salon Marine Pierroz" appears in both lists (Geo Grid shows different spelling/business)

Key Differences Summary

  1. Different #1 competitor (Sophie Crolet vs Le Salon)

  2. Completely different competitor sets with minimal overlap

  3. Salon Prestige position: 3.7 vs 2.0

  4. Geographic coverage: 71.4% vs 89% in Top 3

  5. Sales report introduces traffic capture metrics not in Geo Grid

  6. Apparence Coiffure appears in Sales but not Geo Grid

  7. Sophie Crolet, Studio M, L'atelier 815 in Geo Grid but not Sales report

@Jean-Gabriel also rankings like this fluctuate when the business does not dominate the local map pack. This shows signs of gaps and that Google is not 100% trusting this listing for the top-3.

Sometimes it might just be the algorithm testing but other times when consistent fluctuations shows they are not dominating and means room for improvement still.

Some agencies do scans for the day (during opening times) and night (during closed times) - but peak search times.

This way you get a better picture. Hope this helps 😊

@Jean-Gabriel Le Salon - I see in both reports as an example this scan is much smaller so the ranks can change as the sales intelligence report is optimised for a smaller scan radius and shows competitors based on who ranks on highest for that search on average overall.

    Your scan here:

    https://app.getcoucou.io/scans/b84a43f5-7127-4600-8f35-7415e666ccd2/report

This scan is much larger which will bring out more competitors and 1 scan was done in the morning and one in the evening

@Jean-Gabriel I don’t think these are bugs underlying they both are the same. Calling the exact same endpoints. What happens is results shift depending on the day and time of the scan even if proximity is close it does not mean guaranteed ranking or there is a bug with what the scan results show.

Both scans are independent of each other, one has much bigger radius, likely different keywords and location of searches.

The key being keyword and location. These have a massive impact. But underlying both are exactly the same.

      @mannie@embedmyreviews.com Thanks !

I re-ran the geo grid scan with 'Coiffeur Albertville' (keyword + city) instead of just 'hair dresser', and the results look much more consistent now - mostly green pins near the salon's location as expected.

However, I find it strange that simply adding the city name to the keyword creates such a difference in rankings near the search point. The proximity area went from showing red pins (#20+) to green pins (#1-3)

      Questions:

      1. Why would adding the city name ('Albertville') to the keyword completely change the local rankings near the business's own address?

      2. Should I be using 'keyword + city' as the default for all geo grid scans to get accurate local rankings?**

@Jean-Gabriel no it’s accurate based on what users actually search i.e. hair dresser near me or just hair dresser. Will of course depend which is the most common term.

But the way we do scans is actually mimicking searches from that actual search point (pin) as if the search came from their on a mobile device. When doing searches like this it’s completely different to say a desktop as mobiles leak more information and Google provides more optimal results for the user.

Usually the confusion is that expecting rankings to remain consistent throughout the day which only happens when a business actually dominates the local map pack.

Random businesses appearing is also totally normal as the algorithm shifts and promotes/demotes different listings to collect data.

What you are now doing with this search is introducing a location name that impacts what Google will now return but the previous scan is more natural.
